Common Questions

Many of our most commonly asked questions are answered below. If you have a question not answered here, please use the contact form at the bottom of the page.

Booking a bagpiper:

Q: Are members available on short notice?

A: We understand that some events, such as funerals and memorials, can be unexpected and unplanned, so we try to be accommodating to shorter timelines. Some bagpipers may be available on short notice (i.e. less than one week prior to the performance date), but it really depends on the individual member, so you're encouraged to ask the member directly to ensure their availability.

Q: Can the bagpiper play a specific tune?

A: Most bagpipers have a sizable repertoire of traditional Scottish and/or Irish tunes that can be utilized for most events. However, if you would like a specific tune played for your event, we would encourage you to reach out to the member as early as possible to 1) determine if the tune is well-suited for the bagpipes, and 2) provide them with ample time to research, transpose, learn, and memorize the tune in advance, if possible.

Q: How quickly should I expect to receive a quote?

A: Response times vary and are largely dependent on the contact method and time of day. Phone calls are generally the fastest way of receiving a response. Emails and quote submission forms are typically replied to within 1-2 business days -- while some may respond on weekend days, most will answer emails between Monday and Friday.

Lessons:

Q: Do your members offer instruction for learning the bagpipes?

A: Yes; some of our members also provide private lessons for students. While we will be creating a dedicated section for bagpipe lessons in the near future, the best strategy for the time being is to contact members in your area to enquire.

Q: Is House of Piping only for the Great Highland Bagpipe?

A: While most of our members do play the Great Highland bagpipe, we are looking to expand to include players of the uilleann bagpipes. For more information on the differences between the highland and uilleann bagpipes, please visit here. You can expect to see uilleann bagpipers begin showing on the House of Piping starting next year.
